Oracle for the future
Intervention performance for the “This is not Detroit”-Festival opening. Schauspiel Bochum. October 12th 2013
The UTO (Unknown train object) has brought it’s three oracle runners to the city centre of Bochum. The runners are covered in question about the future. Each passerbyer can try to answer and be granted entrance to the UTO. Whoever makes a prophecy, can pose a new question and attach it to the oracle runner’s body. Answered questions turn into flags, decorating the city centre. Shortly before dawn the runners invite everyone to hear the UTO’s prophecy:
The UTO is sure that in five years time, refugees from all over the world will be welcomed at this train station. The newly arrived people will be celebrated weekly, representatives of the city hall will join in, we’ll have a bed agency and a buffet serving cake and curry wurst. The UTO predicts that in 10 years time the rural areas of Bochum will become striving gardens, calling the population: Live in the park! Everybody’s welcome!
The UTO predicts that in 15 years time the old headframes will serve as roller coaster rides. The first rollercoaster will be built on Dr. Ruer-Platz. The success of said rollercoaster will inspire the construction of one in the Westpark and later at the Jahrhunderthalle.
The UTO oracle predicts that the descendants of Opel will say “I am still Opel” in 100 years.
