Losmachen!
of ancestor stuff and migration stories
Dad made it over when he was eleven, Grandma was expelled as a young woman, great-grandfather immigrated with his family. Family stories are stories of movement, some one always got going, had to flee or just get together with someone and walked away. If we rummage through boxes, photo albums and grandma’s dresser we might just find migrations stories loaded with survival fights, lucky coincidences and dreams of a better life. The young audience and the performers discover stories and experiences, talk about migration, boat trips and bringing families together. Who left when and where did they go? And most importantly: why? Losmachen reveals our cultural identities as something that has always been shaped by migration and thus raising questions: To what extent might my own family history be a representation of european or even worldwide migration history? And: Where did I get my nose?
