a malawian-german theatre project
you hear – you forget. you see – you remember. you touch – you understand. – proverb from Malawi
The performance collective Fräulein Wunder AG from Hanover, Germany, and the theatre company Solomonic Peacocks from Blantyre, Malawi visited each other to develop a production. On site they went into research mode, discovering the new country and teach each other about their understanding of theatre and introduce each other to local cultural practices. With the obvious economical and political imbalance between Europe and Africa in mind, the performers examine whether it is possible to introduce their own culture and explore the unknown culture without serving to traditional power imbalances. What do we have in common? Where do our differences lie? And what can we learn from each other? Culturally, artistically, and from the lives of the other group. We try to answer these questions in a collective theatre evening.
