An audio-visual site-specific performance in a swimmingpool

Medea, the ancient murderer. Her crimes are unbelievable: chopping up her brother, burn her husband’s mistress, and stabbed her children. The medea myth has proven to be the ideal opportunity for predominantly male authors to manifest a threatening womanhood. Many roles were imposed upon Medea.

In a pool overgrown with ivy, three performers, a Medea collective, remember fragments of the myth in a physical and verbal manner. They welcome the myth with violent and self destructive actions. Heiner Müller’s and Hans Henny Jahnn’s Madeas create the soundscape, where the woman manouver. Müller’s Medea denies the patriarchal order and positions herself in the empty middle: “I am not female, nor male.” Jahnn’s Medea suffers from the failed love and sexuality and destroys the world around her, creating chaos, creating nothingness. Apocolypse now.
